Tendinitis or tendonitis is
the inflammation of a tendon. Tendon is the fibrous tissue that
connects the muscle to the bone. The blood circulation is weaker in
the tendons than muscles and bones, so the healing of tendon injury
is fairly slow.
The symptoms of tendonitis
include: Pain, swelling, tenderness, redness, stiffness, tingling,
numbness, usually the restricted movement of joints are the along
with pain. The symptoms could last for several months or longer.
the most common areas for
tendonitis are:
- Elbow- epicondylitis, such as tennis
elbow, golfer’s elbow.
- Knee- peripatellar tendon
- Wrist, fingers,
- Heel, ankle, lower calf – Achilles’ tendon
- Shoulder- rotator cuff tendon
- Hip- iliotibial band tendon
The main cause for
tendonitis is overuse or repetitive injury such as exercise, typing,
or over stretch.
For example, musicians or
hairdressers who work with repetitive movement of a tendon for long
hours or athletes over stretch a tendon from repetitive movements
chronically, all result inflammation of a tendon. Tendinitis also
often associates with arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis.
In western medicine the
treatment for tendonitis includes anti-inflammatory medicines or
steroid injection to the inflamed tendon. Unfortunately the
conventional methods may help reduce pain but not recovery.
Many researches have shown
that acupuncture treatment for tendonitis is considerable effective.
Acupuncture improve and increase the circulation of Qi and blood to
the inflamed tendon instantly, the process will speed the repair and
enhance the recovery.
Most of the cases when
patients receive acupuncture treatment for tendonitis will
experience the swelling and pain is remarkable reduced, and the
motion of the joints also regain quickly. Without scar tissue build
up or internal organ damage form medication, acupuncture is an
absolute natural therapy as an alternative choice for tendonitis.
